About the Workshop
This acting workshop is taught by Vera J. Katz, a dynamic and highly qualified professional.
Vera J. Katz is a Professor Emerita from Howard University in the Department of Theatre Arts where she taught both acting and directing for 32 years. For the past 9 years, she has been a part-time faculty member of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in acting. She has directed more than 50 productions.
She holds a BFA in Theatre Arts from Brooklyn College, an MFA in Directing and Acting from Boston University, and has studied Film at both the University of Southern California and the University of California/Extension. She has been a university liaison with Arizona State, a guest teacher and director at Rutgers University, a visiting professor for the Mentor Series in directing graduates at University of Michigan and a panelist/workshop leader at the East Central Theatre Conference. She won an award for directing the Best Production in Dundalk, Ireland’s International Festival.
She has taught such notables as Debbie Allen, Anthony Anderson (Law and Order), Taraji P. Henson (Person of Interest),
Phylicia Rashad (Cosby Show), Wendy Raquel Robinson (Talk Show Host) and Isaiah Washington (Grey’s Anatomy).
Her current student is Chadwick Boseman, star of the movie “42-the Jackie Robinson Story”.
Ms Katz brings a wealth of quality teaching and real world experience to the workshop and will prepare any student in learning more about acting for the stage and film.
